Application Deadlines
Academic year and fall semester: March 15th
Spring semester: October 15th
Instructions
- It is the responsibility of the applicant to advise all persons supporting the application that the application, transcript, and letters of recommendation must reach the JYS office by the above deadlines.
- Follow the steps specified for each part.
- The different parts of this application can be sent separately to the JYS office, but applications cannot be considered until they are complete.
- Late applications are considered on a space-available basis.
Part I - Applicant's Personal and Academic Information

- Applicant must fill out electronically and e-mail to jys@sbc.edu.
Part II - Recommendation Form from Spanish Professor

- Applicant must complete Section A electronically and send via e-mail to Spanish professor.
- Spanish professor should complete electronically and e-mail directly to jys@sbc.edu before March 15 (if applying to the full academic year or fall semester) or October 15 (if applying to the spring semester).
Part III - Recommendation Form from Professor

- Applicant must complete Section A electronically and send via e-mail to professor writing the recommendation.
- Professor should complete electronically and e-mail directly to jys@sbc.edu before March 15 (if applying to the full academic year or fall semester) or October 15 (if applying to the spring semester).
Part IV - Official Permission to Study Abroad

- Applicant must send electronically to the appropriate official charged with approval of study abroad in her/his home college/university.
- School official should complete electronically and e-mail directly to jys@sbc.edu before March 15 (if applying to the full academic year or fall semester) or October 15 (if applying to the spring semester). Important: Haverford College and Northwestern University students do not need to fill out this part of the application. The study abroad offices of these institutions will contact JYS directly.
Part V - Health Statement

- Applicant must fill out, sign and date Section A.
- Applicant must print and take form to her/his physician.
- Physician must fill out, sign and date Section B.

Part VI - English Narrative
Applicant must e-mail (to jys@sbc.edu) a 500-word narrative in English about her/his experience with Spanish (including travel abroad), academic and personal reasons for wanting to study abroad, and co-curricular activities she/he would want to pursue while abroad.
Part VII - Spanish Narrative
Applicant must e-mail (to jys@sbc.edu) a 200-to-300-word narrative in Spanish describing her/himself, her/his family and/friends, and her/his main goals in life.
Part VIII - Official Transcript
- Applicant must request an official transcript of grades from her/his college/university to be sent directly to JYS at:

Part IX - Terms and Conditions
