Levels and Requirements

Intermediate Level

Intermediate Spanish (201-202)

Course Description

JYS Intensive Intermediate Spanish (201-202) is a five-week summer program taught by SBC professors in Seville, Spain. The course is the equivalent of a two-semester intermediate sequence using materials and following guidelines common to such courses taught in the US. It includes 84 hours of in-class instruction plus the following guided visits:

  • The Cathedral and the Giralda
  • The Alcázar
  • The Roman city of Itálica
  • Granada and the Alhambra
  • Cordoba and the Mezquita
  • Trip to the beach town of Chiclana
Enrollment Requirements
  • Open to rising sophomores, juniors or seniors
  • Completed College-level Introductory Spanish (101-102)
  • Minimum 2.75 GPA in Spanish

SBC JYS has the right to cancel this program subject to enrollment.

Advanced Level

Advanced Grammar and Composition (216)
Hispanic Themes: Spain (219)

Course Description

216 focuses on the application of grammatical principles and organizing strategies to the reading and writing of expository prose. 219 is an introduction to historical and cultural issues in Spain, with a special focus on Andalusia. Students must take both courses, which together include 84 hours of in-class instruction plus the following guided visits:

  • The Cathedral and the Giralda
  • The Alcázar
  • The Roman city of Itálica
  • Granada and the Alhambra
  • Cordoba and the Mezquita
  • Trip to the beach town of Chiclana
